Metro Writer in Residence

The Writer in Residence (WiR) program is a joint project shared by four public libraries in the Metro Edmonton area.

WiR provides an opportunity to connect with a published local author. Writers in Residence:

  • Provide support to aspiring and established writers through one-on-one consultations, workshops and mentoring
  • Connect with community groups and organizations
  • Connect with and encourage the imaginations of readers through public programming
  • Acts as a living link between the library and the community

Every year there are two Writers in Residence (WiR). Edmonton Public Library has a dedicated WiR, while the Metro libraries share a Regional WiR, who divides their time among area libraries. In 2020 these libraries are:

  • January to April: Strathcona County Library
  • May to June: Strathcona County and St. Albert Public Library (shared virtual programming and one-on-one consultations)
  • August to December: St. Albert Public Library

Residents – including Fort Saskatchewan residents – are welcome to meet with the Writers in Residence at any of the libraries. WiR programs are open to anyone.
