10 to Try Genre Benders

KCLS recently introduced the 10 to Try reading challenge. One of the reading categories is a genre that you've never read before. Why settle for one when you could double your pleasure with a genre bender?

Genre benders are books (or films, music, etc.) that mingle two or more genres, or that place a classic subject into an entirely new setting (like the recent zombie/classical mash-up literary fad, opens a new window). Some books just can't even settle into any sort of recognizable genre at all, and I think that counts too. I hope you enjoy one of these!

Life of Pi

Adventure, psychology, fantasy/magical realism(?), travel, tigers. This is one of those hard-to-pin-down novels. Ask 10 people who've read it: 5 will say they hated it and 5 loved it...

Something Red

Horror, historical fiction, mystery. 13th century England, exceedingly well researched. Travelers are being stalked by something...

The Time Traveler's Wife

Romance, fantasy. Also a debut/first novel... another of the categories on the 10 to Try list...

The Sparrow

Science fiction, anthropology, religion, ethics. Thought-provoking and literary, with surprising (warning- adult) plotlines.
